Setting: The date is Thursday 22nd July, 2021. The weather was quite rainy for most of the day but cleared up by the afternoon.
Days since previous Log
On Tuesday, I didn’t feel any muscle soreness however my left knee was still paining when applying pressure ( such as when walking down stairs). On Wednesday, thankfully the knee pain subsided but I finally felt the muscle soreness in my legs- particularly calves. Although, the knee pain disappeared, my knee was still feeling strange. It felt a bit loose -almost as though some internal joint support was missing.
Today’s Run
Today’s run took place in Chaguaramas on the road to the old tracking station. (see route below courtesy of Strava).
I opted for this run because I realized after Monday’s run ( see log#1) that I needed to take a step back and focus on specific aspects of my training. So my goal with this run was strength training ( since it’s still quite steep) but without the unevenness of a trail.
The run started off pretty well… my pace felt good, almost as though I was running on flat. Too bad that feeling didn’t last very long! I quickly felt my poor calves BURNING. About halfway through my abs started hurting as well. Perhaps “ hurting” is not the best word. But basically, I could feel my abs were very weak and unaccustomed to the rapid expansion and contraction caused by my breathing. This ab pain was the most notable of the run- my legs were good. Burning … but not the worst. Nearing the end (last 100m or so) I found myself with a faint wheeze, which is always a bit concerning as I used to have asthma attacks as a child, but nowadays I can recover my breathing fairly quickly after a run.
Why I love Tracking Station
Running up to the tracking station is always very special to me for a number of reasons:
- It was the first proper hill I ever successfully ran all the way up nonstop. This feat gave me the confidence to challenge any hill!
- It’s SOOO serene! The road is so immersed within the forest. The sights and sounds of nature just melt your worries away…
And if you’re lucky you’ll see some cute monkeys! - Sea and Sunsets!! ( I’m a lover of BOTH!) There’s a lookout which overlooks the Caribbean Sea along the way, and I stop there every time on my way down to listen to the waves crashing on the rocks below and ( depending on the time and my luck) enjoy a beautiful sunset <3
