Setting: The date is Friday July 30th, 2021. Today I ran the same route as I did in Log #1 – its a regular route for me. I arrived quite late (around 5:30pm) so I had to go up and down quickly before dusk. This urgency was on my mind but not to the point where I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it in time.
The Run
Shortly into the run, I could already feel my calves burning. I was a bit disappointed. I had hoped I would last a bit longer before the muscle struggle. My breathing was solid though, so I knew today’s run would be more of a mental challenge- focus on controlling the breath and ignore the crying muscles. With this intentional approach, I was able to maintain a consistent pace. It was a slower pace than I’d ideally prefer, but I felt that was what I needed for this particular run.
The Stats
This route is 1.36km distance and 254m elevation gain. My time today was 19 minutes, 44 seconds. This was an improvement of 45 seconds over my Log 1 time. But for further context, my personal best is 16:50. So there’s still plenty room for improvement before I begin to plateau.
Photos
A slight drizzle came down as I was running. And thanks to the angle of the setting sun, that meant there was a beautiful rainbow supporting me!
