It’s been a while since I’ve last posted so I figured I should start by briefly recapping my 2021 and talk about my plans for 2022.
2021 Reflections
This year was definitely not a great year for me. After having my left shoulder injured in March (in the process of teaching a young boy how to walk on stilts), I was pretty gutted. I had just recovered from a wrist injury and now I had to wait even longer before I could resume my pre-pandemic strength training plans. Frankly, I was so flustered and curious why the universe was seemingly punishing me (with the injury) for doing something good (teaching a skill).
To this day, I still don’t quite have the answer. However, there have been a few silver linings… I am now far more cognizant and knowledgeable regarding proper shoulder health. And I have also learnt a fair amount about rehabilitation fundamentals – specifically, how to heal connective tissue.
Since I couldn’t do much upper body training, I did mostly lower body stuff in 2021. Specifically, I fell in love with the world of trail running. This combines the cardio of running, the conditioning and strength training of hills, the uneven terrain of the outdoors, and the serene beauty of nature… all while in an absolute state of Flow! It is such an intense and exhilarating experience every time. Perhaps, this was the real benefit of my shoulder injury.
In terms of my music life. I learnt many beautiful piano pieces in 2021! Popular works such and “Clair de lune” and “Arabesque no.1” by Claude Debussy ( one of my favourite composers), and other enchanting songs by Erik Satie, Yann Tiersen, Ludovico Einaudi and others. Additionally, I started back learning to play the flute!
Work-wise, I started a new job at EY, Trinidad and Tobago- which I was incredibly grateful to get during the pandemic. I am currently still there and it continues to be a brilliant learning experience.
Lastly, I turned 25 this year and it was certainly a unique birthday. It was spent quarantined in my room because I had tested positive for Covid-19 the week prior. Despite the unfortunate situation I made the most of it reflecting, singing and dancing. I definitely won’t forget that birthday.
Looking Forward
Although, I’d like to blame my infrequent blog posts on work and university applications. To tell the truth, I was mainly struggling with motivation. But, now that I have resumed my strength training, I am feeling much much better and I hope to be posting more regularly this year.
